Operational note

Coroner’s inquest into the death of Private James Collinson

The inquest into the death of Private James Collinson will be resumed by Mr Michael Burgess, as Coroner of Surrey, sitting with a jury, at 9.30 am on 20 February 2006 at Epsom Magistrates Court, Ashley Road, Epsom KT18 5AQ.

At the hearing, the coroner will receive evidence from:

· Family members
· HM Armed Forces
· Surrey Police
· Forensics and medical experts

A jury will be present who may present questions to the witnesses.

Members of the public
Space is going to be extremely limited in the public areas. For security reasons members of the public who wish to attend will be subject to security checks, will be required to leave telephones and other equipment outside the court and may be excluded, particularly if there are too many people wishing to attend.

Media arrangements
We plan to provide the media with a professional facility at the Inquests. Photography, filming and recording will not be allowed in the court room but facilities will be provided to enable the media to follow the proceedings.

Media guidelines
Although brief factual information about the inquest arrangements can be published between the announcement and the resumption of the inquest, it is not possible to publish comment or details of possible evidence for legal reasons. During the inquest, and subject to any direction that may be given by the coroner, the media may publish factual reports on the proceedings; any other comment or speculation on similar matters will have to await the completion of the inquest process.

Photography, filming and recording will not be allowed in the court room but facilities will be provided to enable the media to follow the proceedings.

Media accreditation
You are invited to attend or be represented at the inquest and media open day. For the hearings and the media open day you will need accreditation.

This means we need to be notified as soon as possible - but by no later than 15 February - by all media organisations wishing to send representatives to attend the opening hearings and/or media open day.

Please note that media spaces may be limited and we cannot guarantee to provide facilities for organisations that fail to respond.

You can accredit here.
